Reward systems can be useful to engage students and create a positive class culture. A classroom economy is just one type of reward system that can be very effective. When you think of running a classroom economy, you probably think of an elementary classroom with assigned jobs. As a Personal Finance teacher, I was able to successfully use a classroom economy with my high school freshmen, and the results were significant. I had the best classroom management in the school, including no cell phone usage in my class. Students asked other teachers to copy what I was doing. In this session I will share with teachers how my economy worked and how they can modify and use it in their classrooms. I will also walk them through some real life activities like earning their classroom currency and paying for their seats.
