About me
Dr. Monte Tapplar Sr. currently serves as Principal at Lincoln Middle School, located in Indianapolis, Indiana. He has served in the field of education for over 20 years. Half of his career was dedicated to the roles of Music, Dance, and Theatre education at Pike High School. The second half of his career was dedicated to the function of an Assistant Principal at New Augusta North Public Academy North and Pike High School/Freshman Center. Dr. Tapplar has also served as the Pike Freshman Center Academy Leader, 21st Century After School Learning Center Director, 100 Black Men of Indianapolis Summer Academy Director, and PHS Positive Behavior Support Team Chair. Dr. Tapplar was recognized as the Pike High School Teacher of the Year in 2014 and was a two-time recipient of the Most Inspirational Teacher Award (2012; 2017) and Superintendent's Above and Beyond Award (2011; 2014; and 2015). The recent accomplishment of a Ph.D. organizational leadership, at Indiana Wesleyan University, has afforded Dr. Tapplar various opportunities to research and present material encompassing organizational and leadership constructs.
Dr. Tapplar has professional interests in leader development, equitable and restorative practices school and community relations, and best instructional practices, servant leadership, transformational change and best instructional practices as applicable to organizational leadership and learning. Further study in both leadership and organizational theories has sparked great interest in how schools may employ specific leader behaviors and attributes to enhance organizational success in conjunction with healthy working relationships.
As husband to India and father to Monte Jr., Maliyah, and Matthias, Dr. Tapplar is blessed to have each of these special gifts in his life. He and his wife have served in various ministries within their congregation and have enjoyed spreading the gospel locally, nationally, and internationally. Leisurely activities together include exercising, watching movies, and practicing music.
